2000's

Artist's Statement 2000's (My 30s)

This decade was incredibly full. My canvases got bigger, which made sense because my life was expanding in every direction - three kids, a dog, a husband, and somehow I was also doing a Master’s in theology that would lead me toward my Psychotherapy certification. The post-9/11 world weighed heavily on me, all that anxiety and uncertainty as Canada got involved in Afghanistan. Those larger paintings became a way to work through the collective unease I was feeling, along with the big questions about meaning, spirituality, and human psychology I was wrestling with in my studies. My art became where everything came together - the personal, the spiritual, the political. My commitment to simplification deepened here - these large canvases held complex emotions, but I expressed them through highly simplified forms, bringing a degree of order to the chaos swirling around and within me.
